It's much more difficult being vegan in a cold climate where produce isn't locally grown year round. I'm mostly vegan during summer but it doesn't make sense in the winter especially when your main options are silly fake meat fake dairy products and dehydrated plant proteins powders. 🤢🤢🤢

I made a vedgetable soup from my pumkin that i grew last summer. And vedgetable salad and 2 eggs. I feel great better than eating lot of meat. But i know i will be hungry around 4 pm so i will have a jogurt and in the evening a wrap with bit of cheese and tomato...so what do you think😀is that good

Sorry but many vegans look to thin and unhealthy. I wonder why some look good and some so bad, like dying. I would like to be vegetarian. Eat eggs, and cheese but no meat. I never really liked meat anyway.

I'm learning to eat by how my body feels from having it. I've done the vegan way and vegetarian way and it works for a time but your body needs what it needs. I've learned to go by how my body reacts to certain foods. It's knowing that balance for you. The biggest thing is processed foods which are prominently everywhere. Also I spent much more for organic apples a few times in grocery store and they were horrible....wanting organic. I was turned off and every time I saw the word organic attached to any food I was disgusted. I won't buy anything because it says organic.

I'm not a vegan. But I was a vegetarian. I did it to see how I feel and one of the benefits was enjoying my food. I ate vegetables i wouldn't usually eat and I liked the taste. I was never hungry even after eating really small meals. And I ate very little(because without meat I can't eat a lot of rice or pasta etc.) and felt full. Meat is essential though. So try vegetarian and get back to meat.

It's nonesense to tell people to eat fish for "good" cholesterol, the only good cholesterol is the one our bodies produce. Fish is often laden with mercury and pesticides and harvesting fish is destroying marine life.

You don't eat fish for good cholesterol, you eat it for the omega 3 which can lower your triglyceride levels. Also the Mercury in fish is too low to do any noticeable harm to your body

HDL will naturally go down as your LDL goes down. Think of the HDL as the garbage trucks that haul away the bad stuff. They are no longer needed when you eat right.

@chris goodrum yes I am vegan. After 5 years of being vegetarian, I quit dairy in October of last year and finally honey in mid February (that was hard to quit because I don't have many healthier alternatives to sugar here). In fact, I have started activism in my little way, because i thought just not contributing to these atrocities is not enough. I don't consume any animal products now, no clothing material, no animal entertainment.

I do agree. Going vegan inherently means being genuinely concerned about the animals' sufferings and the horrible implications of animal farming on the planet. If one is quitting animal foods just for their health, they are plant based, not vegan. Also, veganism is a lifestyle of not involving harm to any sentient beings. Vegans don't wear silk, fur, leather, wool etc and don't support animal based entertainment like zoos, circuses and marine entertainment. One can't go vegan for a specific period of time. It is a lifelong commitment. I was just explaining what veganism actually is. One doesn't have to be a vegan to bring about change. Eating plant based is better in every way than eating like an Omni or carnivore.

Very little information on what his diet consisted of prior to starting this. Yes, we know that he consumed meat, however, was he also consuming processed conventional foods as well? If so, this would account for the contrast we saw in his blood work. (If he stopped consuming processed foods, of course his numbers would improve). Sorry, not thorough enough for me....

@Stubbari he went from a meat eater to plant based, highlighting the changes that took place. So yes, this is definitely a contrast between two very distinct diets. Which I did not feel was well executed, due to little indication of what his diet looked like prior to starting.. But I am cool having my opinion, and you having yours.

ex meat eater here.. i decided to go on a detox i cut out meat ate only fruits veg for a month. the first few days sucked but then i noticed i had better mood i was calm never got angry, had better concentration and this might sound weird but had better vision like i can actually see colors vividly. couldn't wait for a nice steak when i was done and when the moment came it didnt taste as great as i remembered and after a few days i had headaches felt bloated and upset easly had poor concentration. Never thought id say this but im never going back to meat. just wish there were more vegan alternatives when i go out.with friends.

lol at all the vegan worshiper comments. "what you want to get rid of is the processed foods" This has nothing to do with being vegan, his good cholesterol went down because he wasn't eating his fats. Dump the processed foods and eat non processed fruits/vegetables and meats and there you have it, a NATURAL diet. I stopped eat processed carbs and carbs in general and lost 10 lbs.

Veganism is mostly about animals, the health benefits are just a plus. If you simply go for the health benefits you aren't a vegan, you simply eat the same plant based diet as them. Veganism doesn't even need to be a healthy diet. You can eat the same junk foods as on "normal" diet.

@David Warner I was vegetarian last year and also didn´t consume dairy products. I can´t say if that helped me with weight loss BUT IT DO HELPED ME WITH BLOATING and my skin. I am a "boring vegan" i think haha because I do like to eat healthy the 70% of the time, drink so much water, and do exercise almost 4 or 5 days a week, and I don't even mean going to the gym, just pilates on the floor or 10min HIIT workout out, something that I really enjoy. For weight loss I really recommend intuitive eating, eat without distractions and notice when you are satisfied, dont restrict yourself, if you want to eat a pizza or something do it if you really feel it, it's better to eat with someone and also realize when you had enough, of course, drink water with it. If you eat because of anxiety there are breathing exercises and journaling, but if you feel like eating a cookie or two just do it and dont feel guilty or weak, really enjoy it. Recently i made my transition to vegan because of the animals, you won't sustain that lifestyle for weight loss, weight loss and getting fit is not a GOAL, IS A LIFESTYLE, a healthy one if doing well, of course eating plant-based will help a lot, don't be that restricting, if you want first to leave the meat and chicken, and when you feel comfortable other products. I've been there, i tried so many diets, so many exercises, if you don't enjoy it every day as a lifestyle, it's most likely to fail. Love yourself, have patience in the process, be kind to yourself as if you were talking to your kid self, that helped me because i wanted to lose weight fast and i was forcing myself to do diets and workouts that i didn't like just because it was working on everyone. hope i helped you :3 good luck

@David Warner I also study in college, if you buy follow a whole foods vegan diet you will most likely save money, I sure do and it helps when youre a college student :) Also you should probably do the change slowly, if you switch your diet from 1 day to another your stomach will hate you and you will get gassy. It takes some time for your body to adapt.

@David Warner Its hard for me to say since I'm want to gain weight and I've gained about 1.5 kg since I started(super happy about it). But I would say that its pretty easy to loose weight aswell, most vegan foods are pretty low on calories, and since they contain a lot of fibers and you need to chew a lot and you will feel full but without all the calories. Since I try to gain a lot of weight I stick to a lot of nuts, and oats(would love to eat bread but I cant eat it), and thats an easy way to gain weight. But if you wanna loose I would say just stick to a lot of low calories foods so mostly vegetables, and stay away from things like bread and white carbs(white rice, sugar). Things like spinach, kale, broccolli, tomatoes, egg plants are pretty low in calories and at the same time super healthy. I eat a lot of lentil dahls(can be a bit higher in calories) but I do love a good salad. My personal favorite sallad is when you roast beans and kale in the oven, (beans for 12 minutes and kale for like 3 min), add a whatever you want I usually add arugula, spinach, carrots, cabbage. Since I want some more calories I'll usually add some nuts and tahini. But there are pretty easy ways of loosing weight in a sustainable way on a vegan diet. A friend of mine lost 10 kilos and hes really happy and sticking to a vegan diet, he recently started lifting weight aswell and he found it easy to change his diet to add a bit more calories, mostly making portions bigger but adding some foods with higher calorie count. I cant speak for him but I feel amazing on the diet, and I've dropped my cholesterol from really dangerous levels to very healthy levels just by the diet alone, and I got more energy than before, espcially when I work out. My diet before was a low carb diet and I had energy for maybe 30 minutes when working out, but now I can easily work out for 1 hour without loosing my energy, its amazing.

Tip, dont switch from eating meat to eating vegan in 1 day, do a slow switch. Your stomach will get VERY VERY GASSY, I had a gassy stomach for like 1 months after switching to a vegan diet. Also a lot of peopel overestimate how hard it is to switch. The only thing you really need to worry about might be craving for animal products. But as long as you have done some research its super easy, I basically just eat what I want in a day and I get everything I need. A lot of people who eat meat still probably wont get everything they need, like do you eat fish every week? a lot of people dont. Vegans need to add like some chia seeds or flax seeds and then they get their omega 3.

@lukas johnsson Just pointing out that the life expectancy thing doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of the comment and is a bad argument for veganism. The life expectancy being low had little to nothing to do with their diets. In fact I would say their diet was a lot better than the current (Western/American) diet and that's something we should aim for.

@Stubbari That is true, basically the same in medieval times aswell, life expetance was 35 but if you survivied your youth you could live till you got pretty old like 70. What I'm saying though is that just because something has been done for a long time does not mean that it is the right thing to do. We used to draw blood aswell because we thought that we could have "bad blood" but we obviously dont do that anymore since we know better. Now we know that a vegan diet is better for the environment, its actually the best thing you can do for the envorinment(oxford study), and its better for the animals(they obviously dont wanna die) and its is most likely better for you, (not for everyone since there will probably be rare cases where veganism doesn work but for 99,9% of the human population veganism works and its the future if we are gonna get through climate change.)

what can you substitute cheese with? I am just starting and taking it really slow... cutting out meat is almost a no-brainer for me now as I am a big meat lover. However I switched to almond milk instead of cow's, I eliminated eggs completely, and I have cut down cheese significantly (to put this into perspective, I used to have a toast and cream cheese and egg every morning, but since I started making these changes beginning of January and incorporated 500 ml of celery juice in the morning on an empty stomach daily, I have gone quite far with eliminating or reducing eggs, cheese and dairy. However, I am the person that needs to have cheese on pasta, and also pizza comes with cheese. I ate those 2 may be twice in the last 2 months, but I am curious what can you substitute cheese (the one you put in pasta, lasagna and pizza) with?

I personally find the substitute cheeses super tasty. Althought now days I have switched to a whole foods diet. Try to find other things to have on pizzas, I usually just go with a margarita pizza without any cheece now days. And on sandwhiches I usually have hummus which is super tasty.

it is biased. He is healthier because he got rid of carbs which means " proceeds food". Plant food can be good but it is overrated.

You also get rid of all the saturated fat in animal products which lowers cholesterol. You also eliminate all the hormones, steroids, anti-biotics, pus, blood and sickness when eliminating animal products from your diet. I wouldn't label plant based as overrated.

Processed foods are processed foods. He probably increased his carb instake, I sure as hell did when I went vegan. I ate lentils intstead of meat, meat=0 carbs and lentils=15 carbs/100g of food. He most likely increased carbs from more bread and rice since those are good energy sources. So your argument doesnt really work.

Human history has always eaten a mostly vegetarian/vegan food for the most time, meat has always been expensive. How can you think farmer who worked out in the fields all day eating 4000 calories of plants(mostly bread and beer) were weak? Germanys strongest man is a vegan, how is he weak? The cheapest foods you can buy are lentils, beans, rice, potatoes. Vegan food is actually cheaper(not even talking about animal agriculture subisidies), but if you go with fake animal product vegan foods like vegan cheese or vegan meat those alternatives will be more expensive but a whole food vegan diet is actually a lot cheaper than a diet with meat. There is a reason why poorer nations have more vegetarians.

Cholesterol is only in animal products, and fiber is only in plants. Good beginning, but beyond that eliminate anything processed. Stop looking at the micronutrients, and just eat all those beautiful, colorful plants, including those great starches. drmcdougall.com is a good source and free.

I decided to go vegan for health reasons and my 5 year old decided to do it with me, he pretty much lives on apples, bananas, and all kinds of fruit anyway so its pretty easy for him except the no dairy part because he loves yogurt and milk, we are supplementing milk with almond milk, yet to find a yogurt alternative. We are hoping this clears up his asthma, allergies and eczema and my gut problems so we can both be off of our prescription meds. We just finished Week one and I don’t crave meat anymore and my son doesn’t crave for dairy anymore . I can’t wait for the day I am free from my stomach issues 😊 and my son doesn’t have to take prescription Asthma meds. What really got us started was watching the Netflix documentaries “What the Health” and “The Game Changers”. Now to get husband raise on the standard American diet to get fully on board 😎 with us.

There are many plant-based yogurts you can find at grocery stores like Whole Foods & Sprouts. Most are made from cashew milk. I really like the one from Forager but Kitehill has a good one also.

wait a second I have a question. He tested his levels just eating like a normal person and then went on a strict tailored guided regiment of crs his levels are going to be better.... or that's what is expected no? You kinda need to do two studies.... 30 days vegan and then 30 days of a balanced diet that includes the animal products and then see what your levels are? I have my own health problems and this is very intriguing to me because I think maybe my vestibular migraine would improve ... i don't know .... rabbit hole!!!!!

I have done the same thing! I tested my blood levels before going vegan and now after 2.5 months. My Iron levels increased and my cholesterol drastically decreased aswell. I just eat whatever I want, and try to keep things varied for health but also because I like a varied diet.
